EVM paper: Communicable disease surveillance in Europe: Developing the basis for rational disease prevention strategies.

EVM has encouraged the establishment of the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control, and in this respect issued a position paper and supported a European Parliament Workshop in 2002.

A Regulation establishing a European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control was adopted by The Council and The European Parliament in September 2003. The Centre becomes operational in May 2005.
