EVM’s Contribution to Council of Europe Hearing on “The Handling of The H1N1 Pandemic: The Need for More Transparency”

BRUSSELS, Belgium – January 26, 2010 – The European Vaccine Manufacturers group (EVM) welcomed the opportunity to participate in today’s Council of Europe Health Committee hearing on ‘The handling of the H1N1 pandemic: the need for more transparency.’ EVM was honored to provide insights into the industry’s vital role in addressing pandemic influenza and aimed to address various misconceptions surrounding the pandemic planning process. During this engagement, EVM refuted allegations of inappropriate conduct by vaccine producers in response to H1N1 influenza, offering added clarity on three crucial fronts:

  1. Vaccine manufacturers diligently met the demands of public health authorities and national governments.
  2. The industry responded promptly and effectively, successfully delivering the vaccines as ordered by governments.
  3. Pandemic vaccines were subject to rigorous development and testing processes, and they have been safely administered to millions of European citizens.

EVM’s member companies stand ready to offer further information to the Council of Europe’s Committee should the need arise.
